The American Heart Association Saving Strokes event is in full swing this September in the North Bay. The AHA in partnership with Kaiser Permanente will host the events – which are free and open to the public — at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo and McInnis Park Golf Center in San Rafael.

Saving Strokes empowers stroke survivors by showing them that disabilities should not stop them from playing or learning golf. Golf actually can improve stroke survivors’ strength and flexibility while providing a valuable social outlet to both them and their caregivers. The program includes physical assessment and hands-on golf training for stroke survivors in all stages of recovery.

This year 100 participants are expected at each event, and there is room for more. For more information or to register, please call Leah Grahek at                707-542-1992         or email her at leah.grahek@heart.org. Both events will offer a health fair. If your company is interested in attending and receiving a free booth, please contact Leah.

THE REST OF THE STORY:
From the first round of golf in Sacramento in 2000, volunteers have stepped up to provide the manpower and professional expertise required to implement Saving Strokes events. It is a great opportunity to inspire everyone in the community with the impact we are making in people’s lives.
